Class Description:

This class is designed to support both the parent and child in their at-home instruction of math. Students should use Math U See Curriculum, at either Epsilon, Zeta or Pre-Algebra levels. If your student is new to Math U See, you can have them do a placement test to see which level best suits them. Placement - Math-U-See

We’ll begin the year all together, starting at Lesson 1. I’ll give the instruction for the lesson, and help students begin assignment A by group, then move on to the next level or students. Students may work through one or more assignments in class with their group as I go around checking for understanding after all lessons have been given. I will ask students to refer back to their teacher’s manual to refresh themselves on a lesson or to check their work on assignments A-E. Inevitably, as the year progresses and students work at their own pace, some students will move faster than the standard pace, and others will need more time. I find it helpful to try to keep an average of keeping up with 1 unit a week, using the breaks to catch up if needed. By that method, students will achieve 24 units of their math curriculum during our class schedule.

Homework: Homework for this class should be daily, 30 minutes to an hour, depending on your student and their level. In the course of a week, one entire unit should be completed, lessons A-D and test. Homework and tests should be graded at home. Use the tests and unit tests to provide your grades so that the practice pages can be practice. Please do not do lesson F, unless your student bombs the test. This gives us the opportunity to reteach and try again. Honors lessons are at your discretion as a parent. Additionally, there will be Unit tests. Complete them as you would a unit test.

Non graded by instructor. Grades should be kept at home, based on the tests and unit tests. If you would like a copy of the sheet I use to track my own students at home, please email me.
