Cost: $120 per semester

Class Description:

Let’s explore the elements of the universe together in a fun, active, hands-on approach to learning chemistry. Wanna blow stuff up with me? How about making a rocket blast off in our acids and bases lab? We’ll definitely learn the chemical formula for a fart! Along the way we’ll learn the periodic table, about noble gases, and about those wild and crazy little electrons that spin and bounce around like a sugared-up kid! This class is designed to give students a love for chemistry and science in general.

Students will do assigned reading at home and meet in class for all the messy, fun, and academic projects that will drive key concepts home. We’ll review reading and cover key topics in class. Engaging activities, songs, games, and models are the meat and potatoes of this class. We’ll memorize as much of the periodic table as we can by jumping rope and singing our song in class. By the end of this year, your child will have a solid understanding of the chemical world, and have had a blast learning it.

Homework: Homework is geared to be about 30 minutes of reading time, and 5 minutes of practicing a song a few times a week.

Grades: 1st-5th

Instructor: Jessica Koerner (Miss Athena will be assisting and will be a familiar face to returning students.)
